Vance has over 20 years of experience as the CEO of both public and private software technology innovation companies. Currently, Vance is Executive Chairman and Co-founder of Cherwell Software. Previously, Vance was CEO of Cherwell from its inception in 2004 until 2016. In 2014, Cherwell was recognized as one of the top 101 fastest growing companies over the past 5 years in North America by Deloitte’s Fast 500 (tied with LinkedIn with 1172% growth). In 2015 Cherwell was recognized as the top software company in all of Colorado.
Formerly, Vance was President and CEO of GoldMine® Software, which at the time was rated as one of the top 100 software companies in the United States.
Through the years, Vance has gained much experience in all types of venture funding, and has raised hundreds of millions of dollars from organizations such as Insight Venture Partners and KKR.
In 2009 Vance was given the Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award by Wake Forest University. Additionally, Vance was named EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ 2014 Award Winner and is now part of the EY Entrepreneurs’ Hall of Fame. In 2016 and 2017, Vance served as a national judge in the Technology category for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year competition. Also in 2016, Vance was chosen by KPMG as one of the top 40 entrepreneurs in the nation. Most recently, Goldman Sachs honored Vance by naming him one of the top 100 “Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs” of 2017.
Vance graduated summa cum laude and a member of Phi Beta Kappa from Wake Forest University, with degrees in Economics and Computer Science, and then from the University of North Carolina School of Law with honors. Finishing on Law Review and Order of the Coif, Vance currently is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia. Through the years, Vance has completed continuing education at Michigan, Stanford, Harvard, and the University of Chicago.
